JCI MALTA
Buy A Meal to support the community
JCI Malta has launched a project called ‘Buy a Meal’, which looks to support local SMEs in the catering/hospitality industry during these unprecedented times, while also helping the more vulnerable in society.
This project is aimed towards those people who want to help during the pandemic (and beyond) but might not know what they can do. The funds to support this project being run by a local NGO is being raised through public and corporate donations of as little as €10 per meal.
SIDEQUEST
Supporting the Community through e-sports and online gaming
SIDEQUEST is a new philanthropic organisation focused on supporting our local community through e-sports and online gaming. We shall be coming up with various initiatives over the next few weeks, including online tournaments and other activities. Our first fundraiser for the month of April is for the benefit of Foodbank Lifeline Foundation who are helping to feed around 130 families a week.
We are also encouraging e-sports enthusiasts and gamers to come up with their own initiatives to support the cause, and have had a few already pledging a portion of their winnings to the cause.
THE ALFRED MIZZI FOUNDATION
Donate Fruit & Vegetables to Solidarity Meals
Solidarity Meals aims at providing a lifeline for those families and individuals struggling during the COVID-19 crisis. Solidarity Meals delivers hundreds of meals daily to distribution centres around the island where volunteers led by Caritas (Malta) ensure that the meals are taken to people in their homes.
During our first week, we are providing 350 meals a day. We expect this figure to climb to 1,000 a day over the next few weeks. We can keep this going for two to three months, thereafter we may need support too. We welcome any help that comes our way, especially fresh fruit and vegetables.
FOODBANK LIFELINE FOUNDATION
Supplying food to Malta’s most vulnerable families
Foodbank Lifeline Foundation supplies a variety of food packs to the most vulnerable families in Malta, which are all referred to them by various entities, such as Apogg, Leap, Caritas, St Jean Antide, Oncology department, etc. Prior to Covid19, they were seeing an average of 130 of their registered families collecting weekly grocery packs. Since Covid19, they have seen a dramatic increase in numbers to almost 300 families. Foodbank Lifeline Foundation relies solely on the generosity of the public, companies, schools, individuals to donate either food items or cash donations.
VOLUNTIERA MALTA
Do you want to help and make a difference in your community?
RAR have come together in support of proposals to boost Animal Welfare in Malta. Moira Delia, Alison Bezzina and Romina Frendo have joined forces to become the voice of animals, to raise funds to empower feeders and to respond to any emergencies. They are working on the ground answering crisis emergency calls dealing with areas that have fallen short of feeders, while also neutering and rehoming stray animals. They are also registering all cat feeders on a national basis.
They are constantly appealing for the help of more volunteers to join them, especially now in these terrible times when animals depend on us more than ever before.
GOZO FOOD BANK
Fulfilling a need in Gozo
A group of residents got together to fulfil a huge need in Gozo. There was no food bank in Gozo and with Covid19, we foresaw that people were going to need assistance with getting fed. With assistance from our local council, we received permission to go ahead - and Gozo Food Bank was formed. Free food packages are given to those most affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.
ST JEANNE ANTIDE FOUNDATION
Requesting donations for the supply of personal and home hygiene products
St Jeanne Antide Foundation has, over the years, supplemented the insufficient incomes of families through the supply of personal and home hygiene products. For many families, food, toiletries and home hygiene items supplied by us have meant fending off eviction. At this time of crisis, many vulnerable families are facing difficulties in keeping up with daily necessities. This campaign is held to make sure no one suffers and is given help with their basic needs.
We are now requesting donations for this initiative. It is especially relevant now more than ever - for obvious reasons. We tend to take toiletries for granted but many vulnerable families are not so lucky.
MALTA CHARITY CENTRAL
Connecting peoples’ needs to those offering to help
Malta Charity Central is a Facebook Group that aims to connect charities with the many generous individuals or companies in Malta. This group is intended for use as a notice board for charities or individuals involved in any kind of voluntary work to advise of any particular requirements/needs they may have. It can also be used to announce and promote fund-raising events organised by charities.
In a small community like ours, we believe that Facebook, together with our input, can make a big difference to make this existing gap very small in making us all aware of what is happening and what is needed locally.
AAA- ASSOCIATION FOR ABANDONED ANIMALS
Help rescued dogs enjoy a safe place to live until re-homed
The Association for Abandoned Animals is a non-profit organisation established as a dog shelter to provide rescued dogs with a safe place to live until being re-homed.
Due to the COVID-19 situation, many of the volunteers who used to help us clean and feed the dogs have stopped helping and therefore, it has become much harder to manage the Sanctuary both financially and operationally. In addition, people can no longer visit the sanctuary and so the food and monetary donations are considerably low compared to the norm. Yet we are still taking in more abandoned dogs than we used to do in the past as people are still abandoning their pets instead of looking after them.
SOUP KITCHEN OFM VALLETTA
Providing more than just a hot meal
From the very beginning, Soup Kitchen OFM Valletta recognizes a greater hunger beyond the hunger for food and our goal has always been to provide our guests with more than a hot meal. We are going to serve up a range of programs to nourish the soul as well as the body, including providing hot, nutritious, well-balanced meals 3 times a week, which will later go up to 5 meals a week.
